What our guests say….

“We had an amazing time thank you. It is such a beautiful and peaceful environment. We had a nice, quiet and relaxing time and enjoyed the spectacular views and fireplace during the evenings so much. Stephen and the team were really helpful and friendly, and the food they prepared for us were simply delicious. I can’t complain about anything and would really recommend Olohoro Onyore Ndogo to anyone looking for a weekend away from all the city buzz. Thanks again to the team at Olohoro Onyore and East African Retreats for such an incredible weekend getaway.”

Alicia, Nairobi on Olohoro Onyore Ndogo

“The Lake House is an incredible gem – it’s only 30-40 minutes from Nairobi but you feel a world away. The house is beautifully presented and there is a huge lawn to relax on, as well as a pontoon you can set up for meals on the water if you want. The place feels warm and cosy, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. It’s the perfect weekend getaway for Nairobi residents or as a place to show visitors that is off the usual tourist track!”

“Fred and his and team at Lucita Farm provided us with a beautiful experience. We really enjoyed the house, the grounds, the pool and the friendly canine company. A special thanks to Rodgers for helping us shop and clean up for making sure we had zero complaints. I want to thank you for the connect and East African Retreats for providing access to such beautiful homes. We will definitely be using your services again.”

Paul, Nairobi on Lucita Farm Cottages

“The Frangipani Cabana and Kizingoni Beach were amazing! We loved the privacy during our stay there and it was really peaceful. Anna, Sean and team welcomed us on arrival by the beach. They were great and even surprised us with a private dinner by the beach under the stars. We also enjoyed a sunset dhow ride on the Kilindini dhow which was fantastic. Thank you again for the recommendation.”

Stella, Nairobi on Kizingoni Beach Cabanas

“We had a wonderful stay at Casa Ya Ndoto. It was perfect and just what we needed while spending a couple of days in Nairobi. Great location, wonderful staff and the perfect balance of luxury and comfort. We hope to stay again when we next visit Kenya.”

Isabel, London on Casa ya Ndoto

“We had a very lovely stay at Olepangi House. Clinton and his team (Joseph, Ann and Joyce) were absolutely amazing. We received 5 star treatment. Thank you very much and I’ll definitely be coming back to East African retreats for my next weekend getaway.”

Linda, Nairobi on Olepangi House

“The most incredible villa in the most stunning location. A complete paradise, hidden from the rest of the world with private access to such a beautiful beach – and amazing hospitality! The villa itself is designed and styled exquisitely – you won’t find better than this on the Kenyan coast.”

Charlotte, UK Shwari House

“One of the best houses in one of the most magical places in the world – Lamu island is like nowhere else on earth and Forodhani is without doubt one of the most amazing houses there. Metres from the ocean, with amazing sea views in two directions, you are right above the pier in Shela. The dhows sail past so close to the terrace it feels that your should be able to reach out and touch them. The staff are incredibly friendly and the chef is among the best in Shela.”

Jerome, Nairobi, on Forodhani House Lamu

“Mukima House provided an amazing experience for myself and the five others in my party. The house is absolutely beautiful and the people working there are just as magnificent!  Elizabeth made sure each and every request was attended to and she went above and beyond to make us all comfortable; Winnie gave amazing massages and Duncan really impressed us with his outstanding cooking, using fresh vegetables grown on the property – and he made the best vanilla ice cream I have ever tasted.”

JR, New York, on Mukima House, Nanyuki

“The perfect getaway from Nairobi. We loved have the whole place for ourselves.  We had five kids under the age of ten, and they enjoyed the open spaces and the pool. The place was beautiful, well equipped and perfect in every way. We will certainly go back! The staff were helpful and polite and made our stay even better!  Thank you for making this a fantastic weekend!”

Farrah, Nairobi, on Ol-Popongi Camp, Naivasha

“Just 20 minutes by boat from mainland Kenya, Jahazi House overlooks a deserted golden Indian Ocean beach. Constructed from coral blocks, traditional plasterwork and palm-leaf thatch, this spectacular house has a private courtyard pool for laps under blazing skies, a roof terrace and five Swahili-style bedrooms. The latter have four-posters and intricately carved door frames . Best of all are the accommodating staff, including boat captain with speedboat and private chef.

“This place is great! The building and grounds have been renovated with incredible attention to detail and have been cared for beautifully. The rooms are full of character, there are plenty of lovely places to sit and take in the scenery and everyone who works here is warm and welcoming.”

“Thank you and all the staff for the most wonderful stay. The Old Boma far exceeded our expectations and really was the highlight of our trip.

The Rough Guide to Tanzania, Judy and Tim Carruthers on The Old Boma, Mikindani

“This house on the beach is stunning and beautifully designed and decorated. My husband and I rented the entire house just for ourselves. The property manager and house and kitchen staff were super-friendly and helpful. Hilda made a yummy breakfast every morning, which is included in the rental. It’s a magical place and you will not regret booking this spot. Everything about Kwacha house is spectacular – from the views to the comfortable beds, Zanzibar-style furnishings and private plunge pool.”

Kimberley, Malawi on Kwacha House, Zanzibar

“There really is something about this place that is so special. The setting is jaw-droppingly beautiful and the rooms cozy and comfortable – but it’s more than that. This is not a hotel – it’s a labor of love. It’s run by the owners Clinton and Elizabeth and a great team of staff. Such fascinating people who somehow magically made us feel like we’d been friends for 20 years. In a world where everything is the same, this is a one off!”

“An incredible opportunity to walk into a bygone colonial era. A wonderful house with hosts to match. Sylvia is full of fascinating recollections and charm and Bruce can advise on whatever you need to know about modern Nairobi. The garden is an absolute joy and the double room has its own private terrace to enjoy it from. We took dinner in the house – it was five stars and served in a manner fitting with the setting. Although close to the city it is an oasis away from the traffic and bustle.”

“I cannot give this place enough stars. It is right on the beach with incredible views over the pool and the ocean. Everything was perfect and I would go back in a heartbeat. If you are hesitant just go, you will not regret it – a truly incredible experience.”

“An exceptionally luxurious villa in the most beautiful Watamu location. Tina and her daughters are wonderful hosts and most knowledgeable on all aspects of the area.  A must if you enjoy quality and luxury.”

T.W. & St. John on Shwari House, Watamu

“A photographer’s paradise, an escapist’s utopia, beautiful and wild. We were lucky to stay in this lovely camp, hidden away from the rest of the world by a beautiful river where the service was attentive and genuinely kind, the food cooked in a camp kitchen was divine. Our hosts were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the local culture and diverse wildlife, and the inclusion of the local people is an innovative and ethical way of running a business in the African wilderness.”

“Sometimes reality fails to live up to website pictures – here, it is the other way round – reality exceeds all expectations. This house is a historic dream – restored with incredible attention to detail yet retaining an authentic ‘old’ feel – and all of that with an ocean view. The staff are as friendly and helpful as they are discreet and the cooking is simply exquisite. Really hope to be back before too long”

Vincent, Nairobi on Takaungu House, Kilifi

“This is a really great place to stay – a beautiful location and house with access to all the top game and mountain locations as well as being near to Nanyuki town for shopping and more. Very good food and kind support from discreet staff who really are there to help but not intrude in any way. Lovely walks and good bird watching with some game on the small conservancy. Highly recommended for safaris with family and friends and a great base from which to explore Laikipia.”

Zadock is such a nice guy and makes the stay even more beautiful – he has such a pleasant nature, is competent, smart, super friendly and attentive. We have had lovely walks and just enjoyed every minute so far. We wish we could stay longer this time. But I will definitely come back and recommend the place. Thanks for the tip.”

“This new small boutique hotel is absolutely fantastic – a spacious and beautiful house furnished with eclectic antiques gathered by its Dutch owner. The grounds make you feel that you are hidden away in paradise, surrounded by terraced lawns and a lovely pool. Service is top notch and friendly, the food excellent. Definitely a great place to relax when staying in Nairobi. I’ll come here again.”

Anders & Giovanni, Nairobi on Ol Pejeta’s Safari Cottages, Laikipia

“One of the best places (if not the best) that I’ve been to in Kenya over the last 7 years. It’s an unbelievable property with every detail done right. It’s also located in the ideal location where you can easily head to the beach and go to a neighboring restaurant/hotel. I almost don’t want to recommend it to everyone since then the secret is out!”

“We had a wonderful time at Azhari. The cottage is amazing and the food and staff were great. We will be back!”

Caitlin & Richard, Nairobi on Azhari Beach Cottage, Diani

“We had THE most wonderful time – and Mundui did its magic. It is THE most wonderful place. Many thanks and best wishes to you and your team.”

“We had a lovely break at Mundui and were all looked after very well. The house is strongly recommended for all ages – in our instance we ranged from 2 to 79 years old! It’s a good spot to relax as well as see some game and have a sundowner close to Nairobi.”

“I wanted to write and say an enormous thank you to you and your team at Jahazi House before boring normal life resumes and our holiday on Lamu feels too distant! We had a fabulous time in your house – what a beautiful place you have, and how conducive it is to forced relaxation! Even with 3 kids, we managed to switch off! Thank you for all the preparation that went into making our 4 nights really enjoyable…. We will miss Safari’s ice cream – it’s the best I have had in East Africa!”

“Many thanks for organising Matalai Cottage. We had a fabulous time and thought it was a gorgeous house. The staff were excellent and we will definitely be returning! A real gem!”

“Matalai is wonderful – a warm welcome, stunning house, great hospitality and delicious food – all we could have wished for.”

Joanna & Jon, Nairobi on Matalai Cottage, Watamu

“The house and property are beyond belief, especially arriving after a long, dusty day on safari. We were astounded and I got a lot of brownie points for my choice! It’s huge, beautifully appointed, and has so much to offer. One could easily make a weekend of just staying at the house! Not that one would, what with all the wildlife to be seen in the area. Francesca, the chef was also very kind and on point with her general help. We highly recommend this place and will be back.”

“We were lucky enough to spend three heavenly nights at Kizingoni Beach. The house is absolutely beautiful – very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The staff were all wonderful and served the most delicious fresh seafood. There is time to relax and also plenty to do. Our children were furious to miss out as they were at school and I can’t wait to go back and take them too!”

“We had a brilliant time at Olepangi Farm thanks – Elizabeth and Clinton were fine hosts and the accommodation and food were outstanding! We would definitely stay there again.”

“Guests are really made to feel part of the family. The owners, Clinton and Elizabeth take great trouble to ensure guests’ comfort and we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The property’s distance from any road makes it a truly wild location.”

Hamish & Gregory on Olepangi Farm, Timau

“We had an excellent weekend and Olomayiana was absolutely perfect for our needs. Very comfortable and well furnished. The pool area was fantastic and the sundowner spot well worth the 5 minute walk. We enjoyed cooking but having someone to do the cleaning up. We even hit the dizzy heights of Bisil one evening for a swift pint at the Diplomat’s Bar. Many thanks for your help – it was a great success”

“We had a really lovely few days at Ajabu House. What a peaceful hideaway with a lovely garden, stunning view and super food provided. Just what we wanted. Many thanks.”

“Ajabu has excellent staff who clearly care about the property and the guests. The chef was particularly impressive – we didn’t give him much to work with, but he put together a delicious feast for every meal.”

SM & Shamim on Ajabu House, Naivasha

“This remarkable, peaceful, luxurious place exceeded any hopes we had for our stay in Nairobi. Mario and his lovely family made us feel like we were coming home. Our room was large, gracious, uplifting and super-comfortable. Arrangements were effortless and every need accommodated. Breakfasts were terrific. Masha, the housekeeper, is saintly. Mario arranged a car for us at 3 AM (!!) when our flight was delayed. In short – this is the place to stay in Nairobi!!”

The food was exceptional. All the staff were welcoming and went out of their way to give us the holiday of a lifetime. Zadock, the chef and caretaker, made us delicious dinners and made sure that our stay was a pleasant as could be. The 5 days that we were there seemed to fly by. We hope to go back again in the near future.”

Hannah, Nairobi, on Susie’s Camp

“Our time at Maridhiya House was simply perfect. The house has been beautifully restored. The three of us each had his/her own bedroom and bathroom, on a different floor, as well as a charming shared living area on the second floor. The view over Lamu from the rooftop is unmatched – we often preferred to stay at home rather than going out. Kahindi and Dixon took excellent care of us: picking us up from the airport, arranging boat rides, showing us around Lamu.”

Lotte, Nairobi on Maridhiya House

The team in the house took great care of us and our meals. The road to the house was easy to do and actually a nice little game drive – we saw lots of animals on the way. All in all a super weekend.”

Sarah, T&J on Banana Farm House

“Absolutely perfect! From the moment you arrive you are surrounded by beauty. It is difficult to put into words how amazing this place is – it really needs to be seen. Both the house and the interiors are exceptional – beautifully designed and luxurious and with a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere that is second to none. Whether you want to walk along the stunning beach, play in the waves, swim in the pool or just sit and soak up the atmosphere whilst admiring the magnificent views, I know you will never forget this wonderful place. I cannot recommend it highly enough.”

“I can’t imagine a more perfect place to have your honeymoon. It is absolutely stunning, the service is great, the village is scenic and you have your own infinity pool. We felt totally spoilt, had time to relax and bond and there were plenty of activities to keep us occupied. Ask Nina the manager to make suggestions and arrangements – she has great tips for things to do and places to go and it seemed like there was nothing she couldn’t organise.”

“We spent two nights relaxing at Casa Ya Ndoto and they are two nights we will never forget. Our room was just perfect, clean and beautifully decorated. We were treated to a delicious breakfast (fresh fruit & juice, yoghurt, eggs and bacon etc.) each morning and enjoyed watching the warthogs play in the garden. Our hosts gave us service you would expect at a 5-star hotel. The lush grounds of the property provided a delightful escape from fast-paced city life and made returning home after a long day that much better. We cannot thank everyone at Casa Ya Ndoto enough for the way they accommodated us. When we return to Kenya there is no doubt we will be staying here again. I cannot recommend it enough!”

Hayley, Australia on Casa Ya Ndoto

“We had a fantastic stay and the whole El Karama team, led by Sophie, were so friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable! As well as game drives and walking safaris, we enjoyed breakfast in the bush and finished the day with G&Ts as we watched the sun go down. 14,000 acres of private land meant we saw no other safari vehicles at all. The head guide, Joseph, was simply excellent – his knowledge of animals and birds seemed endless. We also enjoyed a tour of the farm where he pointed out the exciting projects coming to fruition –  El Karama is certainly a model of how sustainable land management, conservation and tourism can be combined to great effect!”

Jessie, Nairobi on El Karama Lodge

“We found our perfect little paradise at Four Twenty South – and if you are looking for the perfect, quiet and relaxing spot to spend your holiday you’ll find it here too – the beautiful cottages have wonderful sea views and you can basically roll out of bed and jump into the ocean! There is enough space between the cottages so you don’t even notice there are other people around. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we have never felt more at home while being on holiday.”

Jasper, Frankfurt on Karen Gables

What an amazing place and truly a labour of love. There is so much to see & do around the place – exploring the Chalbi desert, swimming in Lake Turkana, driving up to Sibiloi, visiting Central Island or just climbing up a rock to look at the sunset! But who wants to go anywhere else when you can lounge by the rock pool, sit by the fire and enjoy stunning moonrises right there in camp? All the staff were really helpful and Lepatoiye proved to be an excellent cook. I can’t wait to go back again!”

Jeske, Nairobi on Koros Camp

“Thank you Lucita Farm and the fantastic team who made our weekend away so relaxing.  We had the whole place to ourselves as we took both houses which was an absolute treat!  The larger guest house has a fireplace and plenty of room for friends to gather and the smaller one has views over the lake – it’s hard to say which is better as they are both so well put together!  We had a great time lounging by the pool and enjoying our evenings by the fire.  We can’t wait to come back with more friends soon”.

EHM, Nairobi on Lucita Farm Cottage 1

“Words can’t describe how gorgeous & relaxing this house is. It is beautifully laid-out and spacious with plenty of rooms, ensuring privacy and alone time if many people are staying. There were only two of us so the house was enormous but we enjoyed every inch of it. The house is very safe and secure and the staff are out of this world!  Sammy and Charo welcomed us warmly and catered to our every need. We plan to come back & tell everyone we know about Neem House!”

“Thank you and all the staff for the most wonderful stay. The Old Boma far exceeded our expectations and really was the highlight of our trip. We have stayed in many hotels around the world and throughout Africa and I can honestly say that The Old Boma is amongst the very best. Apart from the friendly and very willing staff and all the facilities, the building itself is so beautiful and has been wonderfully restored by Trade Aid.”

Judy and Tim Carruthers on The Old Boma

“Tusitiri is the most majestic private dhow – or lateen-rigged ship – in the known world, as well as the most luxuriously appointed and the most professionally run”

“This is one of the great romantic sea journeys of the world – the tranquillity of life on the dhow will make you shed layers of stress. Spending even one night on board is a magical experience and the chef is a genius, conjuring up extraordinary meals from a tiny alfresco galley on the poop deck.”

Architectural Digest & Harper’s Bazaar on Tusitiri Dhow

“The Tree House is one of the most unique guest houses I have ever stayed at. Views of the forest, monkeys playing in the tree canopy and seeing the ocean from every angle, with each room designed to catch the sea breezes. The Star Bed on the very top floor was a romantic nest with a panorama lookout to soothe any nature lover’s soul. The fresh healthy meals and juices were delicious, and activities like the creek float and SUP Board Yoga were amazing. Guides and instructors were friendly, knowledgeable and very encouraging. I would stay again in a heartbeat.”

“Words cannot express how happy my family was with our stay at the Moon houses! It was indeed a magical experience. First, the staff were exceptional. They were kind, professional, and very attentive. They made all of us feel cared for and welcomed. My mom, the birthday girl, felt like a queen. Second, the location and houses were absolutely gorgeous. Everybody was impressed by the beauty of our accommodation. Third, the food! It was so good! Every meal was delicious. We thought there was no way the chef could top his last meal, but he continued to prove us wrong. Folks in our group made sure not miss a meal at the house!”

“We had a great time at El Karama and hope to return. Our compliments to Lovi and the team. Robinson was a great guide and was patient with our long game drives and walks – we appreciated his knowledge of birds and wildlife in general. We also appreciated the activities available and organized for kids, the day and particularly the night game drives and the swimming pool with the copper system – we swam every day. We also appreciated the genuine sorting and separation of waste. Thanks again! It was a super time and we shall not forget the lioness leaping into the air after the vulture.”

“When we arrived, we were overwhelmed by the beauty of this private paradise in the middle of nature. We stayed in the new Hobbit house. Perfectly designed with a great bed and shower. Nearby a large and well equipped open kitchen and living room with a huge table, seats, WiFi and a very helpful staff. It is a self-catering camp, so we brought our own food and drinks and when we were running out one of the staff members could bring us fresh fruit, vegetables and lamb-meat. We would love to come back!”

“My family and I spent this past Christmas at Neem House – and had a completely incredible ten days. The house itself is exquisite – big beautiful rooms, lovely reading nooks and decor and an amazing plunge pool! The staff could not have been friendlier or kinder – they looked after us so well and treated us like gold.  We will definitely be back soon – your house is spectacular and comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!”
