Location
The Maa House is situated at the heart of the Masai Mara ecosystem in between the private Naboisho and Olare Motorogi Conservancies. Entry to the Masai Mara National Reserve is via the Zebra Plains gate less than 3 km from the house. Alternatively the Talek gate just beyond Talek village is approximately 10 km south of the house via the C14 road.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve covers an area of 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles or 370,000 acres) at a height of between 1,500 to 2,170 meters above sea level. It leads East Africa in density, diversity and quantity of wildlife – it is home to over 95 species of mammals and over 570 recorded species of birds.
How to get there
By Road
Driving distance from Nairobi to the Maa House is approximately 250 kilometres and the journey should take around 4.5 hours. A 4wd / high-clearance vehicle is highly recommended.
From Nairobi, head to Narok. Just after Narok turn left onto the C12 road to Sekenani – this is a good tarmac road of approx. 85 km all the way to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Enter the Reserve at the Sekenani Gate. Game drive through the Reserve to the Talek Gate. Exit the Reserve here and head through Talek Town and take the C14 road north towards Aitong. After approximately 10km you will see two large stone pillars on the left of the road – this is the entrance to the Maa Trust and Maa House. Turn left here.
By Air
The Olare Orok airstrip is around 7 km north of Maa House and there are daily flights to and from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport on Air Kenya and Safarilink.
