We loved the incredible sense of peace, space and privacy – it’s very hard to believe that Nairobi is so close by when you feel so remote and relaxed. We so enjoyed sitting around the fire pit at night with just the wind and the stars and the silence for company – no noise, no neighbours and no lights for as far as the eye could see. The next morning we walked down into the valley and visited a Maasai manyatta, meeting the herdsmen and seeing the goats and sheep being milked and branded (take your hiking boots as it’s steep and rocky in places) Daniel was a great guide and charming with our children. The staff all looked after us very well – their welcome was warm and genuine and their cooking spot-on. Olmaroroi is a fantastic achievement and such a unique and original place to stay – we couldn’t recommend it more highly.”

Location

Olmaroroi is situated in a beautiful and quiet location beyond and behind the Ngong Hills in the heart of Maasailand, yet only 30 kilometres (18 miles) west of central Nairobi. The property enjoys wonderful uninterrupted views across the Rift Valley towards Mount Suswa to the West, Mount Longonot to the North and Mount Olorgesaiilie to the South.

How to get there

Olmaroroi is less than 1 hour’s drive from Karen via Ngong Town – we can supply guests with detailed directions and map co-ordinates. Driving distance from Karen is approximately 31 kilometres (19 miles) and from Ngong Town approximately 23 kilometres (14 miles).

A guide on a motorcycle is available to guide guests to the house from Ngong Town – please ask for further details – and guests should ensure that they arrive in daylight as it is easy to get lost in the surrounding bush after dark if unfamiliar with the route.

Standard season: 6th January -14th December

Standard Rates – Friday and Saturday

Ksh 75,000 per night for up to 8 guests
Ksh 85,000 per night for up to 10 guests (house and tent)
Minimum stay – 2 nights

Standard Rates – Sunday to Thursday nights

Ksh 60,000 per night for up to 8 guests
Ksh 70,000 per night for up to 10 guests (house and tent)
Minimum stay – 2 nights

Christmas, New Year and Easter rates
(15th December – 5th January | 29th March – 1st April)

Ksh 135,000 per night for up to 10 guests (house and tent)
Minimum stay – 3 nights

All rentals are on a ‘self-catering’ basis – including the services of cook and housekeeper
Guests should bring all their food and drinks with them (limited supplies of drinking water are supplied)
Guests should bring all charcoal and firewood with them
The house is not recommended for small children of 6 years old or under (except for non-crawling infants) due to steep slopes and drops and unfenced swimming pool. Small children must be closely supervised by adult guests at all times.
Maximum occupancy – 10 guests
Check in – 3 pm to 6 pm only
Check out – 10 am
Early check-in and late check-out upon request at an additional Ksh 20,000 each.
The owners require all adult guests to sign an indemnity / disclaimer form on arrival
