Tarangau Retreat is quietly situated on Bofa Road in a leafy residential area about 10 minutes’ drive north from the centre of Kilifi town. Beautiful Bofa Beach is a 5 minute stroll from the house and Salty’s beach bar and restaurant, which also offers kite surfing is about 10 minutes away on foot

Kilifi Harbour and Bridge

Kilifi is a busy small town with plenty of shops and services including a well-stocked Naivas supermarket. The Express Shop on Bofa Road stocks gourmet food and drinks. All kinds of water sports and activities are available – from deep-sea fishing to snorkelling, water skiing and scuba diving – Kilifi Creek is home to 3 Degrees South Watersports Centre, AquaVentures Dive Centre, Sunset Dhow trips and more.

kilifi Creek

Kilifi attracts ocean sailors and the creek offers a fabulous deep-water yacht anchorage and is ideal for boating and windsurfing. Larger boats can be hired from the Boatyard about a mile up the creek on the south shore, where there is a pleasant bar and restaurant. Other recommended places to eat are Nautilus on the north shore of the creek and The Food Movement and The Twisted Fig in Kilifi Plantation.

Vipingo Ridge Golf Course

Mombasa, Malindi, the ancient ruins at Gedi and the Arabuko Sokoke Forest – all make interesting day trips from Kilifi and all are within about an hour’s drive of the house. There is an excellent golf course at the Vipingo Ridge development about 30 minutes away – the course has been designed and built to the exacting USGA standard and is of international class. It has a spectacular setting, at the top of the ridge overlooking the Indian Ocean.

How to get there

By Road

Kilifi is about one hour’s drive from Mombasa to the south and a little less from Malindi to the north. Driving time from Nairobi to Kilifi is around 7 hours.

By Air

There are daily flights on ALS from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the airstrip at Vipingo Ridge which is about 25 minutes away by road from Kilifi https://www.flyals.com/

Self-catering Accommodation Rates

Minimum stay – 3 nights.
Maximum occupancy – 8 guests, can be rented with Tarangau Cottage to accommodate 10 guests.
Minimum stay over Christmas and New Year – 7 nights.

Standard Accommodation Rates (6th Jan to 15th Dec)

$500 per night for up to 4 guests
Additional guests – $70 per guest per night.

Christmas & New Year Rates (16th Dec to 5th Jan)

$1,375 per night for up to 10 guests in both main house and cottage (5 bedrooms)
Additional guests – $138 per guest per night upon written pre-approval.

Check-in from 3pm and Check-out by 10 am

All stays are on a ‘self-catering’ basis including the services of cook and team of staff

Guests are responsible for supplying and purchasing all their own food and drink – shopping is available by prior arrangement and at additional cost

The swimming pool and inside and outside water features are unfenced. Children must be closely supervised around the pool and ponds by an adult guest and should never be left unattended in any part of the property at any time.
